Protecting our water
Water is required as an ingredient in our beverages and as part of the manufacturing process. CBA members fully support a functional municipal water infrastructure. Strong municipal water systems are as important to the Canadian beverage industry as they are to all citizens.
Bottled water and other beverages only represent a very small portion of water taken from municipal and spring sources – for example, in Quebec (2021), it represented 0.68% of water consumption by industries. Bottled water accounts for less than 0.5% of all waste produced in Canada. Our bottles are made from 100% Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), which is 100% recyclable.
CBA members invest to reduce their freshwater footprint and identify reuse opportunities for treating process water within their own operations.
